November - Byebye bike! India, Goa, Agra, Varanasi

After a long time looking forward, my brother Julian and me finally arrived in Goa! He was visiting me for his three weeks vacation. Honestly I struggled a bit, about what to report from these weeks. The most sights we visited, where only open at night and had names like Club Curlies, Cafe Lilliput, UV Bar, Shiva Valley, Blue Diamond and so on... So we enjoyed the party life in Goa, the people there and not at least the fooooood. Goa is a place the people call "India light". This is an expression I totally agree with. Cause everything is a bit more western here (also the prices). But for me a good place to start my India tour.

Together with my brother Julian, we drove to Arambol beach. There I had a reunion with my friend Sascha. I know him from the Namaste Hostel in Tbilisi. Now we said namaste in India. :) Julian and me found a nice first home with two floors. The upper floor is like a big balcony with a roof, curtains, a small "kitchen corner" to cut some vegetables and a bed on it. The lower floor comes with a bed and a bathroom. Very nice. In the first week, like the most europeans entering India, Julian was sick. Luckily my digestion seems to be stronger. I felt good. After the week, we moved forward to Anjuna beach. Here we took a room at the White Negro Resort. A nice place, with a garden and a really dedicated crew! Here we stood for the last two weeks in Goa.

Nachdem ich mich lange darauf gefreut habe, erreichte ich mit meinem Bruder Julian endlich Goa! Er besuchte mich in seinen drei Wochen Urlaub. Um ehrlich zu sein wusste ich hier anfangs nicht so recht, wovon ich berichten sollte. Die meisten Sehenswürdigkeiten die wir besichtigt haben, waren nur nachts geöffnet. Sie trugen Namen wie Club Curlies, Cafe Lilliput, UV Bar, Shiva Valley, Blue Diamond und so weiter... Wir genossen das Partyleben auf Goa, sowie die Menschen und nicht zuletzt das Esssseeeennn! Goa wird auch "Indien light" genannt. Dem stimme ich voll zu! Denn alles ist ein wenig westlicher hier (auch die Preise). Doch für mich ein guter Start für meine Indien tour.

Zusammen fuhren wir nach Arambol Beach. Hier traf ich meinen Freund Sascha wieder. Ich kannte ihn aus dem Namaste Hostel in Tbilisi. Nun sagten wir uns in Indien Namaste. Julian und ich suchten uns eine schöne Unterkunft mit zwei Stockwerken. Im oberen hatten wir eine art überdachten Balkon mit Vorhängen rund herum, einer Küchenecke zum Obst zubereiten und einem Bett. Im unteren Geschoss dann ein Bett und ein Bad. Sehr schön! In der ersten Woche ging es Julian wie den meisten Europäern die nach Indien kommen und er war erstmal krank. Glücklicherweise schien meine Verdauung abgehärtet zu sein. Ich fühlte mich gut! Nach einer Woche ging es weiter Richtung Anjuna Beach. Hier nahmen wir ein Zimmer im White Negro Resort. Ein schönes Resort mit Garten und einer sehr bemühten Crew! Hier blieben wir dann die restlichen beiden Wochen in Goa.

End of Oktober to beginning of November - Hormoz, Qeshm, Dubai

After three weeks in Shiraz I headed to see the south of Iran, the islands Hormoz and Qeshm. So I left the shelter from Nouräddin and all the friends I had made in Shiraz behind me and took a night bus to Bandar Abbas. From there I took a ferry to Hormoz island. People told me that I would find some Hippie groups there, with colored skin from the red sand of Hormoz. Unfortunately I didn't see them. But I enjoyed the time on Hormoz cause after five or six weeks I was completely alone again. The island was created as two earth plates crushed into each other. Also there are rumors about a big meteor which hit the island. Still you can find some alien stones with metals not from earth. The whole island looks like a moon landscape.

I arrived at the harbor around eight o'clock in the morning. It was early, but the sun was already burning. First I rode through the village. The houses seemed to be built in an old way cause they all were flat and sand colored. Despite the heat outside, it was relatively cold inside the buildings (I was in one little supermarket). Most of the streets are not asphalted. In the morning, a lot of fishermen rode out to the sea with their slim fisher boats. But unfortunately there was no market to buy some fish. Also I saw no restaurants or anything similar. During my whole day on Hormoz I only saw a hand full of tourists passing by on the whole island. Here it seems that the time has stopped....

Nach drei Wochen in Shiraz ging es für mich weiter in den Süden vom Iran, auf die Inseln Hormoz und Qeshm. So ließ ich das Zuhause von Nouräddin hinter mir, mit all den Freunden die ich in der Zeit dort gewonnen hatte. Mit einem Nachtbus ging es nach Bandar Abbas. Von hier aus weiter mit der Fähre nach Hormoz. Die Leute erzählten mir, dass es eine Hippieinsel sei, auf der sich die Menschen mit dem für die Insel typischen roten Sand anmalten. Leider habe ich das in der Form nicht gesehen. Doch genoss ich die Zeit, nach ca. sechs Wochen wieder mal völlig alleine zu sein. Die Insel entstand, als zwei Erdplatten aufeinander stießen. Gerüchten nach, ist hier auch ein Meteor eingeschlagen, von dem man heute noch Steine mit außerirdischen Metallen finden kann. Die ganze Insel gleicht einer Mondlandschaft.

Um acht Uhr morgens kam ich am Hafen in Hormoz an. Es war noch früh doch die Sonne brannte schon. Erst fuhr ich durch das Dorf. Die Häuser schienen auf eine alte Art gebaut, da sie Flachdächer hatten und eine art Sandfarbe. Trotz der starken Hitze draußen, war es innen relativ Kühl (ich war in einem kleinen Supermarkt). Die meisten Straßen im Dorf waren nicht asphaltiert. Viele Fischer fuhren am Morgen mit ihren schmalen Fischerbooten aufs Meer hinaus. Leider gab es keinen Markt, auf dem man den Fisch hätte kaufen können. Auch kein Restaurant, oder ähnliches war zu erkennen. Während des ganzen Tages, sind höchstens eine Hand voll Touristen an mir vorbeigekommen. Es schien als sei die Zeit hier stehengeblieben...

During the Aschura memorial ceremony, which lasts for 10 days (TEN!!!), people come together and punish themselves. After two hours of punishment they all eat a free meal together. They remember the death of Huasin ibn Ali who was killed in 680 as a martyr.

Während dem Aschura Gedächtnis Zeremonie welche 10 Tage (ZEHN!!!) geht, kommen die Menschen zusammen und bestrafen sich selbst. Nach zwei Stunden des Strafvollzuges wird ein kostenloses Essen für alle ausgegeben. Sie gedenken Husain ibn Ali, der 680 als Märtyrer starb.

Also the youngest with mini-chains walk in the ceremony. (During the ceremony some people told me they thought the ceremony was ridiculous and they would prefer a happy celebration - I totally agree!)

Auch die Kleinsten laufen mit Miniketten in der Zeremonie (Während ich meine Fotos machte, erzählten mir ein paar der Teilnehmer, dass sie die Sache eher lächerlich fänden und eine fröhliche Feier bevorzugen würden - Dem stimme ich zu!)

Middle of September to middle Oktober Iran, Tabriz, Teheran, Isfehan, Shiraz

What do you know about Iran? It is dangerous there? Terrorism comes from here and terrorists come in flocks from Iran?! All the people there are really religious and if you don't follow it, you will get problems? Of course exists in other cultures other customs, but with the resonances you get in Germany you can come to the opinion that the people are getting manipulated?! Of course nobody does!!! If you now take your mobile and write the english word "Iranian" you would agree with me. Here you see the only logical word, everybody think should follow after Iranian (or should think?).

In this post I will describe my picture of Iran to you to minimize such prejudices. So it will be a bit more text than the last posts. Here we go :)

Was weisst du eigentlich über den Iran? Dort ist es gefährlich? Terroristen kommen von hier und halten sich scharenweise dort auf?! Die Menschen dort sind alle schwer religiös und wer dem nicht folgt, bekommt Probleme? Natürlich herrschen in einer anderen Kultur andere Sitten, jedoch könnte man bei den Resonanzen die man in Deutschland bekommt die Meinung haben, dass man manipuliert wird!? Werden wir natürlich nicht!!! Wer jetzt mal sein Handy zur Hand nimmt und das englische Wort "iranian" eingibt, wird mir zustimmen, dass durch T9 das einzig logisch folgende Wort vorgeschlagen wird, dass jeder mit dem Iran und seinen Bürgern zuerst vermuten wird (oder soll?).

In diesem Beitrag werde ich mein Bild vom Iran beschreiben, um mal mit den vielen Vorurteilen aufzuräumen. Daher wird er auch ein wenig ausführlicher vom Text her als die letzten. Los gehts :)

Tabriz

Early in the morning I arrive with the bus from Yerevan in Tabriz. The bus driver let me of somewhere on a motorway in Tabriz. Behram who I never saw bevor stud up at 6 o'clock in the morning for me. Only to pick up me and my bicycle. He drove me to his families home, where I get a breakfast and a rest. He is the friend of my friend Saleh and now also mine. After the rest I went to Saleh where they wait already for me with the lunch.

Früh morgens komme ich mit dem Bus aus Yerevan in Tabriz an. Der Busfahrer lässt mich irgendwo auf der Autobahn bei Tabriz raus. Behram den ich noch nie zuvor gesehen habe steht um 6 Uhr auf um mich einzusammeln. Samt Fahrrad lädt er mich ein, um mich zu sich nachhause zu fahren. Er ist der Freund meines Freundes Saleh aus Tabriz und nun auch mein Freund. Bei seiner Familie angekommen bekomme ich ein Frühstück und kann mich etwas ablegen. Dann geht es zu Saleh wo auch schon ein Mittagessen auf mich wartet.

Middle August to middle of September, Tbilisi to Vanadzor, lake Sevan, Yerevan

The last days in Tbilisi where really nice and I felt at home. After six weeks of not riding my bicycle I startet with a new saddle. (The old one wasn't the right one, as I realized) So the company SQ-Labs sponsored me a new one! Thanks for that!!!! Took only two days with a bit pain and now everything feels like totally made for me! :)

Die letzten Tage in Tbilisi waren noch sehr schön und ich habe mich zu Hause gefühlt. Nach 6 Wochen ohne Radfahren ging es nun wieder auf den Sattel. Dieser war auch noch neu, da sich mein alter als ungeeignet rausstellte. Hier hat die Firma SQ-Labs mir einen neuen gesponsort! Vielen dank an der Stelle!!! Nach einer kurzen Eingewöhnungszeit ist dieser nun wie für mich gemacht!!!
